A Lifetime of Goodbyes

You looked back and smiled at me
Across the crowded airport
As you walked away

Fourteen years disappeared
And I was watching you
Walk away in a different airport
And a different time.

I cried again
Unashamedly
To lose you once more.

Sometimes it seems
My whole life is spent
Saying goodbye to you.

If I could love God
The way I love you,
I'd be a saint.
Maybe that's why
I always have to say
Goodbye.
